Story labels

Every story carries a plain-language label. Click one to see what it means.

DOCUMENTED
Evidence supports the core event or claim.

A record, observation, or source supports the basic thing being described. Documented does not mean every interpretation is settled.

SCIENCE
Established science or active scientific research.

The story is grounded in scientific evidence or an active research question. The frontier may still be uncertain.

HISTORY
Documented historical material.

The story is about people, places, or events supported by historical records. Sources can still disagree about meaning.

LEGEND
Traditional story, legend, or folklore.

This is a culturally meaningful story passed through tradition. It is not presented as a verified event.

CLAIMED
Reported or alleged, but not established.

Someone reported it or believes it happened, but the available evidence does not establish the claim.

UNSOLVED
The evidence exists, but important questions remain.

There is a real record or observation here, but the explanation is incomplete.

DISPUTED
Evidence or interpretations conflict.

Credible sources or interpretations do not line up cleanly. We show the disagreement instead of hiding it.
